Cillian Murphy Smoked Over 3000 Rose Herbal Cigarettes for his Character “Thomas Shelby”

May 3, 2021

Cillian Murphy portrayed the character of Thomas Shelby and stood up to the standards of the audience. Indeed, Cillian Murphy said in an interview that he felt "devastated" at the conclusion of recording. It's no surprise that the star is mentally and physically drained from his brilliant depiction of Tommy Shelby, not to mention fed up with the thousands of herbal smokes.

I personally think if something’s not a challenge there’s no point doing it because you’re not gonna learn much

The Thomas Shelby Of The Peaky Blinders

In the show Peaky Blinders, Cillian has portrayed as a chain smoker who always smokes. He never leaves the house without a cigarette in his mouth. He smoked from the start of the show because it suited his personality as the gang’s boss. One day while acting on set Cillian asked one of the prop guys to keep track of the amount of cigarettes Murphy was smoking . It was counted by the prop man, and the total exceeded 3000. In short,  Cillian smoked more than 3000 cigarettes in just the first two seasons of the show. Cillian has a few additional responsibilities in this series since he is also an executive producer and a lead actor.

The amusing thing is that Cillian Murphy does not smoke in real life. Instead, he would smoke herbal cigarettes whilst filming. Murphy estimated that he had smoked over 3000 “herbal cigarettes” during the interview.
Joe Cole (John Shelby) does smoke cigars, but only for the sake of performing.
In Peaky Blinders, Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby) does not smoke cigarettes and can only be seen smoking cigars.
Finn Cole (Michael Gray) smokes, as he does in Peaky Blinders, but he doesn’t seem to pose with a cigarette in his hand too much anywhere.
