Facebook, dedicated to bringing AR and VR to consumers around the world revealed their vision for the wristband that will control their augmented reality glasses.
Why Is Facebook Launching The AR Wristband?
Every single movement in our body starts with a electric signal in the brain, it goes down to the spine from motor neurons to the target muscle nerves which makes the movement possible. Vaguely synonymous with waving a wand for a magic trick.
That can be as simple as hey I just want to move something like a cursor or a file up/down or move it left/right. Normally we would be moving, but here you’re able to move without physical touch.
Everything starts with a click.
How Is It Happening?
The answer is EMG(Electromyography)which is responsible for tracking electric activities as a response to nerves stimulating over/of the muscle. Thus this device could track the nerve signals your brain sends to your fingers while you’re typing so you can type on a virtual keyboard without physical buttons.
The possibilities of these wristbands are more and wide and the major new addition is haptic. Facebook says it’s been implementing it in various devices which give you subtle feedback.
in simple terms, what happens is that your brain sends signals to your hands and fingers telling them to move in specific ways to perform actions like typing and swiping where those signals are decoded with the help of the band around your wrist.
How would FB benefit and are those bands secure to wear apart from those amazing features?
That said, the bands will almost certainly be collecting a lot of data that might be typing patterns and any bio-metric information captured by fitness tracking sensors, augmented reality glasses, and another tech that could be integrated with the band.
It’s all earlier in the stages of testing and as of now, we can just wait for the time to pass by and encounter the growth of these technology (AR/VR).
