Microsoft Turned A Meme Into Reality By Announcing the X Box Mini Fridge

June 15, 2021

Microsoft turned a meme into reality by introducing the Xbox Series X mini-fridge. No, it's not April fool's today, and I am not kidding. Microsoft revealed the first look of its new Xbox Series X-shaped mini-fridge while announcing new Xbox games for its fans during Bethesda and Xbox E3 virtual gaming conference.

When Microsoft launched its Xbox Series X console, people roasted Xbox Series X for its appearance similar to a mini-fridge which soon became a viral meme and reached the brand through social media. Microsoft acknowledged the memes by agreeing that, yes, it looks like a mini-fridge. The mini-fridge meme went too far, and Microsoft ended up launching actual Xbox full-sized fridges and sent them to famous influencers like The Rock and Snoop Dogg, which created quite a buzz for the brand. However, Aaron Greenberg, Xbox Marketing boss, even put up a poll on Twitter in October 2020, asking his followers if they would be interested in buying a Mini fridge by Xbox, and the majority said yes. “Think of us as testing that mini-fridge market with this promotion. We know fans also would love to be able to purchase a Series X mini-fridge in the future!” said Greenberg on Twitter.

Twitter Marketing

On 15 March 2021, Twitter marketing came up with its first round of “Brand Bracket” designed to identify the top tweeting business handles on Twitter. “We know the conversational nature of Twitter makes it a place where brands can be their most human-sounding selves. Brands can have two-way conversations with their real and unfiltered audience and can’t be replicated anywhere else. With this bracket, we aim to celebrate those that do this the best – as selected by the people of Twitter,” Twitter explained.

Skittles and X box made it to the finals by vanquishing all other brands in the competition and took Twitter by storm. Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg asked his followers to vote for Xbox and promised them that it would make Xbox mini-fridges an actual product if their followers make them win the competition. It was a big deal because this time, Microsoft didn’t just talk but also promised to release the Xbox mini-fridge.

Greenberg’s efforts worked, and Xbox won the battle by 50.5% to 49.5% margin and bagged twitter’s “best of tweets” title. Greenberg mentioned that the first Xbox mini-fridge would go to skittles as a kind gesture to its competitor. As promised by Xbox, the Xbox mini-fridge series is all set to launch during the holiday season of 2021.

Thanks to everyone who voted, this was down to the wire and thrilling to follow. Now that @Xbox won, we will move forward on our promise to make those Xbox Series X Mini Fridges. First one off the line will be filled with games & headed to our friends @Skittles of course! 💚🌈

The brand has not released any information regarding its price yet. Still, Xbox enthusiasts have been making estimates for the same since Microsoft announced the Xbox Series X mini-fridge production. They expect it to be priced somewhere between $250-300, which is less than the Xbox X series console price.

World's Most Powerful Mini Fridge

Microsoft also released an iconic trailer for the same. According to the trailer, Xbox Series X mini fridge is the “world’s most powerful Mini Fridge”, which is similar to Microsoft’s marketing terminology during the release of the Xbox series X. However, the company managed to make a fun reference in the trailer relating to the Xbox Velocity Cooling Architecture, a new technology introduced by Microsoft in its Xbox series X, which boosts the GPU power of the console. According to the trailer, it’s equipped with “Velocity Cooling Architecture”, which presents a possibility of it being priced higher than what the Twitterati estimated.

According to the trailer, the fridge looks precisely like an Xbox X series console. The outer body is carbon black, while the interior is white with green fridge light. It seems like it can store up to 9-10 cans in it as there are four cans each, on the two lower shelves and 1-2 cans on the top shelf, as shown in the video.

There’s no official word regarding the price, design and specifications of the Xbox Series X mini-fridge. Microsoft has left a lot for us to guess about its Xbox series X mini-fridge as there’s not much information available about this appliance on the internet, as the brand has kept it all for the final day of release. Xbox enthusiasts and the whole gaming community is eagerly waiting for the launch.
