Oreo Has It’s Very Own Doomsday Bunker

March 11, 2021

If you are someone who fears the end of the world or the doomsday, you are not alone. Oreo fears it as much! Be it a zombie apocalypse or alien attack, the good news is that the cookies are safe now. Oreo, has actually established a "doomsday vault" in Norway and the end of the world is no more a worry for Oreo anymore. Talk about taking it a little too far.

The Various Doomsday Theories That Haunt!

The fear of the world ending is subconsciously instilled in all of humanity. The increasing pollution, climate change, etc. contribute to the fact that the world will end someday and all of humanity will be wiped out just like the time when the Earth that we walk on was home to dinosaurs. It is said that a massive asteroid crashed on the earth and killed everything that lived on our planet at that time.

There are a number of theories that scientists have formulated on how the world would end. It is said that the Earth will end if it comes too close to a wandering black hole and we all know that whatever comes close to a blackhole will immediately get sucked in and be lost forever because of its extremely strong gravitational force, some say that the Sun will explode as it is a star and all stars explode into a supernova at some point. There is also a theory that a rouge planet floating around in space could collide with Earth and melt our Earth. But the one that we are going to talk about today is the possibility of an Asteroid hitting the planet and killing all life as we know it.

NASA data has predicted that a small asteroid heading towards the Earth has a chance of hitting the planet

Will An Asteroid End It All?

Movies have been made on this very subject where an asteroid hit the Earth and everyone dies. Armageddon and Deep Impact try to showcase and give us some idea bout what would happen if an asteroid crashed into Earth and how people could survive.

We as humans are prone to believing everything that comes out of an expert’s mouth. As for the people that don’t believe without proof, it certainly raises a little bit of a doubt that maybe what someone has said, is in fact, true. That is why when scientists said that they world might end soon, many people and organization started preparing for it and formulating a plan to survive the said apocalypse.

Oreo's Doomsday Vault Is In Norway

The Crop Trust, which is officially known as the Global Crop Diversity Trust, is an international non-profit organization that works to preserve crop diversity to protect and preserve global food security. This trust was set up by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) in partnership. This Trust has set up a huge safety deposit box, deep in the icy mountains on an island above the Arctic Circle between Norway and it is known as the Global Seed Vault on Spitsbergen which is a part of Norway’s Svalbard archipelago. This vault contains more than 930,000 varieties of food crops. Brian Lainoff, lead partnerships coordinator of the Crop Trust says, “Inside this building is 13,000 years of agricultural history”

Svalbard is a very remote place in Norway. So isolate that it is the farthest north you can fly on a commercial plane. “It is away from the places on earth where you have war and terror, everything maybe you are afraid of in other places. It is situated in a safe place,” says Bente Naeverdal, a property manager who oversees the day-to-day operation of the vault.

the asteroid poses no danger to our planet, Oreo is not taking the chance and have stored its cookies and recipe in a vault

Oreo's Vault or Publicity Stunt?

Soon this vault building for doomsday, became a publicity stunt and Oreo grabbed this opportunity by building its own doomsday vault. Oreo published a video on its YouTube page showing the vault. In the video, Beth McMorrow, the brand manager of Oreo said that she saw a tweet by Oliviagordon, who tweeted about an asteroid coming close to Earth as it was rumoured at that time. The person asked ‘Who will save the Oreos?’.

That is when they started researching and found out about the Global Seed Vault in Svalbard. The team got in contact with Markus Thorland, project manager, Johansdotter Architecture and requested him to build a vault for Oreo within 30 days. Time was of the essence because NASA had released a statement saying Asteroid 2108VP1 was predicted to crash onto Earth in November, 2020.

How Will The Doomsday Vault Protect Oreo?

However, NASA did say that the size of the asteroid was small and would probably not survive entering the atmosphere, Oreo did not want to risk losing these iconic cookies that the world loves.

In a tweet, after the release of the video, Oreo explained how each cookie packet was wrapped in protective Mylar which would keep the cookies safe from temperatures varying from -80°F to 300°F. It also explained that vials of powdered milk are also stored in this vault which can be mixed with snow and melt it so that people can dunk their Oreos in it before eating. They also gave the co-ordinates for this vault, which are 78°08’58.1″N, 16°01’59.7″E. Go put these in your google and you will see that it is placed close to the seed vault.

Do We Have Any Other Vaults?

Aside from the Global Seeds Vault and the Oreo Vault, another such vault was made in order to help mankind re-establish the world after a disaster in the same area.

Established in 2017, the Arctic World Archive (AWA), is home to a collection of valuable data and irreplaceable information from all over the world. It consists of manuscripts from the Vatican Library, Political histories, art form various eras, scientific discoveries as well as cultural treasures.

Are We Ready For The Doomsday?

Many of the world’s elite, including sports stars and executives have started preparing for ‘doomsday’ by having a shelter, a safe house, a vault, whatever you call it, for themselves and their families. It is rumored that Bill Gates also has a bunker at all of his properties. These bunkers are the present-day Noah’s Ark, that will ensure that a certain group of people will survive the apocalypse and build a new community. In order to make sure that the future of mankind is safe and has means to look after themselves, some arrangements have been made.

Well, even if the world came to an end and we all die, at least the 1% that has enough resources to have safety bunkers built and survive natural and man-made disasters, will have all sorts of information for forming a new society as well as the seeds to grow new crops and build a whole new biodiversity.

Let’s not forget the Oreos that will have survived as well! Any idea if anyone has a milk vault too?
